Description

This 1987 Volkswagen Golf GTI is a European-market example that was refurbished in the Netherlands before it was acquired by the seller and imported to the US in 2023. The car is powered by a supercharged 1.8L 16-valve inline-four mated to a five-speed manual transaxle and is finished in blue over striped gray cloth upholstery. Equipment includes 15″ BBS RS wheels, adjustable coilover suspension, disc brakes, a heater, Recaro bucket seats, a Blaupunkt cassette stereo, upgraded engine components, and an aftermarket exhaust system. This Golf GTI is now offered with the owner’s manual, a service booklet, a spare set of steel wheels, a clean Carfax report, and a clean Texas title in the seller’s name.

The car is said to have been finished from the factory in Helios Blue Metallic and was refinished in 2016. Exterior details include red pinstriping on the grille, bumpers, and bodyside moldings as well as quadruple headlights, a front lip spoiler, 16V badging, wheel arch flares, an antenna, a rear spoiler, a rear wiper, and polished dual exhaust outlets. The front lower lip spoiler has a crack on the left side.

This is a relist after the vehicle previously sold on BaT in July 2023 and experienced a mechanical issue that has since been remedied. The sale was mutually unwound by the seller and buyer.

Modular 15″ BBS RS wheels feature gold centers and are mounted with 195/45 Barum Bravuris 3HM tires up front and Continental Sport Contact 2 out back. Stopping power is provided by four-wheel disc brakes, and the suspension has been fitted with height-adjustable KW coilovers. The Recaro front seats and the rear bench seat are upholstered in gray cloth with patterned inserts, and they are complemented by color-coordinated door panel inserts. Equipment includes a heater, crank windows, and a Blaupunkt cassette stereo, which includes medium and long wave frequencies in addition to FM.

The four-spoke steering wheel frames a 260-km/h speedometer, a tachometer, a digital clock, and a fuel level gauge. Gauges for voltage, boost pressure, and oil pressure are mounted at the bottom of the center stack. The odometer was reset during the refurbishment work and shows 4,200 kilometers (~2,600 miles), approximately 100 of which were added under current ownership. Total mileage is unknown.

The 1.8L 16-valve inline-four is fitted with a supercharger and intercooler from a G60 and was reportedly rebuilt in 2016. The selling dealer notes that additional service at that time included replacing the clutch and installing an aftermarket oil pump, a Scirocco KR intake manifold, G60 fuel injectors, and aftermarket exhaust headers. The selling dealer states the injectors were cleaned in August 2023 and fluid and filter changes were performed in preparation for the sale.

The five-speed manual transaxle was reportedly overhauled in 2016. The car is fitted with a Novus Automotive resonator and muffler, and additional underside photos are provided in the gallery.
