This 1991 Volkswagen Golf GTI 16V was optioned without a sunroof and a radio and spent time in New York and Missouri before the seller’s acquisition in April 2022. Finished in Tornado Red over gray cloth upholstery, the car is powered by a 16-valve 2.0L inline-four mated to a five-speed manual transaxle. Equipment includes 15″ BBS wheels, Recaro front seats, a Techtonics exhaust system and engine management software, aftermarket springs, and a Mk3 serpentine belt system. Fluid services were performed and ignition components were replaced in 2022. This Mk2 GTI shows 162k miles and is now offered at no reserve with service records, a car cover, spare parts, manufacturer’s literature, a clean Carfax report, and a clean Connecticut title in the seller’s name.

The car was optioned without a sunroof and is finished in Tornado Red (LY3D). Exterior details include quad headlights, fog lights, 16V badging, black body side moldings, wheel arch flares, a rear wiper, and a rear spoiler. The passenger front fender and hood were reportedly refinished due to an object falling on the car under prior ownership. The seller notes a dent, a missing badge, and loose trim are present near the rear hatch as well as chips and scuffs on the front and rear bumpers, a dent near the driver’s door handle, and a loose passenger side fog light. The headlights are not functional.

Silver 15″ BBS basketweave wheels wear 195/50 Kumho Ecsta PA31 tires. Suspension modifications include H&R springs and an Eibach flat aluminum strut-tower brace. The seller notes one wheel has a bend in the lip and the car is in need of an alignment. The brake fluid was flushed in June 2022.

The cabin features two-tone Recaro front seats and a rear bench upholstered in gray cloth with matching door panel inserts and red accents. Aftermarket additions include a Pioneer stereo, a GTI Anniversary Edition shift knob and boot, and a Duostyling air/fuel ratio gauge. The headliner was replaced in October 2014, and the seller notes a burn hole on the driver’s seat and a tear on the driver’s door panel. The driver’s window crank works intermittently.

An Italvolanti Formel steering wheel frames a 140-mph speedometer, a tachometer, and supplementary gauges. Auxiliary gauges are mounted in place of the ashtray. The mechanical odometer shows 162k miles, approximately 100 of which were added under current ownership.

The 2.0L DOHC 16-valve inline-four is said to have been modified with a Techtonics exhaust system and EPROM tuning software as well as a Mk3 ABA serpentine belt conversion. The radiator fan and air conditioning components have been removed. Service in October 2014 is said to have included performing a timing belt service and machining the cylinder heads, while the battery, distributor, cap, ignition coil, fuel filter, fuel pump, and spark plugs and wires were replaced and the fuel tank drained in 2022. The seller reports the serpentine belt squeals when idling.

Power is sent to the front wheels through a five-speed manual transaxle. Rust is present on the driver’s side underbody, additional photos of which can be found in the gallery below. The car is not equipped with a catalytic converter.

The owner’s manual notes a warranty start date of June 6, 1991, factory colors and options, and delivery to Jim Finnegan Volkswagen in North Syracuse, New York. Service records, manufacturer’s literature, a car cover, and rear wheel arch flares are also included in the sale.

The Carfax report shows no accidents or other damage and lists history in New York, Missouri, and Connecticut.
