Description

This 1990 Volkswagen Golf GTI 16V was reportedly imported to Canada from Holland in 2014, and it is powered by a 16-valve 2.0-liter 9A inline-four linked with a five-speed manual transaxle. A Rallye-style grille and headlights have been installed, along with Koni shocks, APEX lowering springs, 15″ BBS wheels, a stainless-steel header, and an aftermarket exhaust system with a Remus muffler. Finished in black over gray cloth upholstery, the car was acquired by the seller in 2023, and service has since consisted of replacing the distributor cap and rotor, fuel lines, starter, alternator, and drive belts. This Mk2 GTI is now offered with European service records, a spare front bumper cover, a clean Carfax report, and Alberta registration in the seller’s name.

The body was finished from the factory in black (L041) and is said to have been repainted some time ago. The seller states the Rallye-style grille, headlights, and radiator support were installed under prior ownership. The front lip spoiler is cracked, and the seller notes the bumper does not sit properly on the bumper clips. The hood and roof show fading, there are dents around the body, and bubbling is present near the right lower window seal. A spare front bumper cover is included in the sale.

Silver 15″ BBS wheels are mounted with 195/50 Hankook Ventus S1 tires up front and 195/50 Bridgestone Potenza rubber out back. Stopping power is provided by four-wheel disc brakes. Koni shocks and APEX lowering springs has been added. The seller notes the tires, brake pads, and brake rotors require replacement.

The cabin features front Recaro bucket seats and a rear bench upholstered in gray cloth with red and black stripes. Amenities include manual crank windows, a golfball shift-knob, and a Kenwood CD stereo. The dashboard is cracked, and the seller notes the driver’s power seat needs assistance to move up and down.

The four-spoke steering wheel frames a 260-km/h speedometer and a tachometer as well as a digital clock and gauges for coolant temperature and fuel level. The six-digit odometer shows 210k kilometers (~130k miles), approximately 600 of which were added under current ownership. The seller notes the dash cluster light bulb is burnt out on one side and the MAF digital screen needs to be replaced.

The five-speed manual transaxle was reportedly rebuilt at the same time as the engine. A 2.25″ exhaust system with a Remus muffler has been fitted. The seller notes corrosion on the front crossmember and cradle, control arm rear beam, and the fuel tank straps.
