Description
This 1990 Volkswagen Golf GTI is finished in Tornado Red over striped grey velour and powered by a later 2.0L ABA inline-four paired with a close-ratio 5-speed manual transmission. The seller has owned the car since 2013 and fitted the replacement engine with a big-valve head, HYD 268-degree camshaft, Techtonics EPROM ECU chip, and more. Other modifications include urethane motor mounts, solid front subframe mounts, Bilstein dampers, Neuspeed springs, and a VR6 strut mount conversion. This GTI is offered with invoices for the work performed under current ownership, a summary of modifications, a Carfax report, and a clean Pennsylvania title.
The seller performed a repaint in the original Tornado Red with black valances, small bumpers, and early-style side moldings. Rust repair was reportedly performed prior to the paintwork. The 14″ teardrop alloy wheels are finished in dark grey, while the spare retains its original brushed finish.
Suspension modifications include Bilstein dampers, VR6 front strut mounts, urethane rear shock mounts, and German-made Neuspeed springs. The seller also performed a wheel stud conversion and fitted an early GTI rear axle with disc brakes as well as urethane control arm and rear axle bushings.
The interior features striped grey velour upholstery, charcoal carpets, and black plastics. The car is equipped with a manual crank windows and a sunroof, though was ordered without air conditioning. A golf-ball shift knob, TT short shift kit, and aftermarket steering wheel have been fitted.
The GTI dash carries a red accent stripe, and an aftermarket radio is fitted in the stock location. Approximately 151k miles are shown on the mechanical odometer. The driver and passenger knee bar covers are missing.
The seller installed a 2.0L ABA inline-four sourced from a 1997 Volkswagen and equipped with a big-valve cylinder head, 10.0:1 pistons, and HYD 268-degree camshaft. A cold air intake, 4-into-2 manifolds, Techtonics 2-into-1 downpipe, high-flow catalytic converter, Mk II VR6 exhaust system, and strut tower brace were also installed. Power is sent to the front wheels through a 9A close-ratio 5-speed manual transmission featuring a new Sachs clutch, lightweight flywheel, and 3.94:1 final drive ratio.
The seller has performed a timing belt service as well as fitting a rebuilt starter, new water pump, and replacement fuel pumps. Brake work included a new master cylinder, proportioning valve, braided stainless hoses, hard lines, calipers, rotors, and pads.
