Description
This 1989 Volkswagen Golf GTI 16V has been registered in Washington State since new and now shows 85k miles. Finished in black over two-tone gray cloth, the car is powered by 16-valve 1.8L inline-four mated to a five-speed manual transaxle. Equipment includes 15″ BBS wheels, H&R coilovers, a sunroof, air conditioning, and an AM/FM cassette stereo. This MK2 GTI is offered with a spare set of wheels, the removed factory grille and headlight assembly, manufacturer’s literature, a clean Carfax report, and a clean Washington State title in the seller’s name.
The car is finished in black with red pinstriping on the grille, bumpers, and bodyside moldings. A four-headlight front end was fitted under current ownership, and other exterior details include a sunroof, wheel arch flares, a rear spoiler, and a rear wiper. Blemishes include dents around the body and rock chips on the front end.
Silver 15″ BBS wheels are wrapped in 195/50 Bridgestone Potenza G 009 tires. Braking is provided by four-wheel discs, and H&R coilover suspension has been added. Curb rash is present on the wheels.
The cabin features two-tone gray cloth seating surfaces with red stripes and GTI logos embroidered in the front seat backrests. Matching red accent stripes extend to the door panels and dashboard, while VW-logo floor mats line the footwells. Other amenities include manual windows, a factory cassette stereo, a leather-wrapped shift knob and air conditioning. The seller notes the headliner has been repaired, and the rear hinges of the glovebox are not attached.
A four-spoke steering wheel frames a 140-mph speedometer and tachometer with a 6,800-rpm redline as well as a shift light, warning lights, and a digital clock. The six-digit mechanical odometer shows 85k miles, approximately 300 of which were added by the seller.
The 1.8-liter DOHC 16-valve inline-four produced 123 hp and 120 lb-ft of torque when new. The heater core is said to have been replaced under current ownership. An engine oil leak is noted.
Power is delivered to the front wheels through a five-speed manual transaxle.
