This 1988 Volkswagen Golf GTI 16V is a Canadian-market example that was reportedly sold new in Calgary, Alberta and moved to Vancouver, British Columbia after the second owner’s purchase in 2005. The seller acquired the car around six months ago, and the odometer now shows 198,906 kilometers (123,594 miles). Power comes from an unmodified 1.8-liter 16-valve inline-four paired to a 5-speed manual transmission, and a modern Bluetooth stereo head unit has been added. A new clutch was installed at 185k kilometers and the timing belt has also been replaced. This Mk2 GTI 16V is now offered with 13 years of maintenance records, factory manuals, the original radio, a clear CarProof report, and a clean Nova Scotia title in the seller’s name.

To the seller’s knowledge this GTI has not required body or paint work, and the included CarProof is accident free. Over 60 exterior photos are provided in the extensive gallery below. The seller has highlighted a small dent on the driver-side front fender next to the headlight along with two paint chips. Two waves in the hood are also present, though they are reportedly difficult to photograph.

This GTI retains its factory suspension system along with correct 14″ teardrop alloy wheels. Riken Raptor tires are equipped all around.

The cabin features factory cloth seats with leather bolstering. The driver’s outer bolstering and thigh support are torn as depicted above.

A JVC head-unit with Bluetooth has been installed, and the factory radio is pictured in the gallery below. Recently a new shift bushing kit, pivot kit, and lever kit were installed. The odometer currently shows 198,906 kilometers (123,594 miles), about 1,000 of which have been added by the seller during his six months of ownership.

The 1.8-liter 16-valve inline-four and 5-speed manual transmission have both been maintained in stock specifications. A new clutch was installed at 185k kilometers, and other recent servicing included a new timing belt, valve cover gasket, and left axle seal. The most recent maintenance was completed roughly two months ago, and the car recently passed its Provincial safety inspection.

The driver’s floor was replaced in March 2018 by an independent Volkswagen specialist using a new OEM panel ordered from the UK.
