This 1987 Volkswagen Golf GTI 16V was first sold by Casey Imports of Newport News, Virginia, and was acquired in 2016 by the seller who states that it previously remained with the original owner. Finished in Diamond Silver Metallic over black vinyl and striped cloth upholstery, the car is powered by a 1.8-liter 16v inline-four paired with a five-speed manual transaxle. Equipment includes 14″ teardrop wheels, disc brakes, air conditioning, and a Bluetooth-capable Pioneer head unit. Work performed in 2021 included an oil change, a power steering flush, and replacement of the water pump, timing belt, tensioner, thermostat, spark plugs, ignition wires, fuel injector seals, oil cooler, valve cover gasket, expansion tank, and cooling system hoses. Now showing 155k miles, this Golf GTI 16V is offered with a Bentley service manual, a window sticker, parts receipts, service records, dealer literature, a Carfax report, and a clean Tennessee title in the seller’s name.

The car left the Westmoreland, Pennsylvania, factory finished in Diamond Silver Metallic and features aerodynamic flush headlights, a front lip spoiler, black wheel arch extensions, GTI badging, a rear window wiper, and a rear window spoiler. Exterior blemishes include sun-damaged paint on the hood and roof and worn side moldings. A damage report is noted in a February 2003 entry of the Carfax report, which notes the car was inspected following an accident or other incident that resulted in damage to the rear.

Teardrop 14″ alloy wheels are mounted with 195/60 Hankook Kinergy ST tires that were fitted in January 2023. The car is equipped with power-assisted steering in addition to four-wheel disc brakes. The power steering reservoir was replaced and the fluid was flushed in 2021.

The cabin features seating surfaces upholstered in black vinyl with red, black, and gray striped cloth inserts. Interior elements include air conditioning, a golf ball shift knob, a Bluetooth-capable Pioneer head unit, and a 16V badge on the glove compartment door. Wear is visible on the driver’s seat upholstery. The ignition switch was replaced in May 2023 and the seat bushings were replaced in 2021. The 1.8L 16-valve inline-four is equipped with Bosch KE-Jetronic fuel injection, and factory-rated output was 123 horsepower and 120 lb-ft of torque. An oil change was performed and the water pump, timing belt, tensioner, thermostat, spark plugs, ignition wires, fuel injector seals, oil cooler, valve cover gasket, cooling system hoses, and expansion tank were replaced in 2021. An oil leak is present and a valve cover bolt is broken off.

Power is sent to the front wheels through a five-speed manual transaxle. The transmission shifter linkage was rebuilt in March 2022. The in-tank lift pump was replaced in 2021 and the factory underbody fuel pump has been replaced with a Walbro unit.
