Description
This 1992 Volkswagen Golf GTI 16V is a US-market example that was sold in Texas and was subsequently exported to the Netherlands, where it spent most of its life before it was acquired by the seller and re-imported to the US in 2022. Showing 53k miles, the car is finished in Tornado Red over gray cloth upholstery and powered by a 16-valve 2.0L inline-four mated to a five-speed manual transaxle. Equipment includes a sunroof, 15″ BBS wheels, Recaro front seats, air conditioning, and a European-market Philips cassette stereo. An oil change was performed and the shifter bushings were replaced in December 2022. This Mk2 GTI is now offered with manufacturer’s literature, service records, a clean Carfax report, and a clean Connecticut title in the seller’s name.
The car is finished in Tornado Red with a black grille, bumper trim, and bodyside moldings. Exterior details include 16V badging, a manual sunroof, a rear spoiler, a rear window wiper, quad headlights, fog lights, and black wheel arch flares. Scratches are visible around the rear license plate, and a body-color plug was installed in the rear lower valance after the photos were taken.
Silver 15″ BBS wheels are mounted with 195/50 Michelin Pilot Sport 3 tires. Stopping power is provided by four-wheel disc brakes with ventilated front rotors. Curb marks are visible on the left-rear wheel.
The Recaro front seats and the rear bench seat are upholstered in gray cloth with patterned inserts, and they are complemented by color-coordinated door panel inserts and red accents. GTI 16V-branded floor mats line the footwells, and other amenities include air conditioning, manual windows, a leather-wrapped shift knob, a European-market Philips cassette stereo, and an Aktive sound system. A label under the hood states that the air-conditioning system was converted in May 2012, and the shifter bushings were replaced in December 2022.
The four-spoke steering wheel frames a 140-mph speedometer and tachometer as well as a shift light, a digital clock, and gauges for coolant temperature and fuel level. The six-digit mechanical odometer shows 53k miles, approximately 150 of which were added during current ownership.
The 2.0L 16-valve inline-four features Bosch fuel injection, and factory-rated output was 134 horsepower and 133 lb-ft of torque. A sticker in the engine bay notes that the timing belt was replaced in 2012. An oil change was performed in 2022.
Power is sent to the front wheels through a five-speed manual transaxle.
