Description

This 1986 Volkswagen Golf GTI was first sold by Casey Imports of Newport News, Virginia, and was acquired by the selling dealer in October 2023. The car is powered by a 1.8-liter inline-four paired with a five-speed manual transaxle and is finished in black over gray cloth upholstery. Equipment includes 14″ alloy wheels, four-wheel disc brakes, a sport suspension, a 16-valve-style front lip spoiler, a sunroof, a rear spoiler, air conditioning, and a factory “Sound Choice” SC 73 ETR radio. This Mk2 GTI shows 168k miles and is now offered at no reserve by the selling dealer with a window sticker, manufacturer’s literature, service records, a Carfax report, and a clean Pennsylvania title.

The car left the Westmoreland, Pennsylvania, factory finished in black and features aerodynamic flush headlights, a 16-valve-style front lip spoiler, black wheel arch extensions, GTI badging, a sunroof, a rear window wiper, and a rear window spoiler. The Carfax report shows an accident in December 2003 that resulted in damage to the left rear of the vehicle. The selling dealer reports paint work was performed in 1992 and the front and rear bumpers appear to have been replaced.

Factory 14″ “snowflake” alloy wheels wear 195/60 Michelin Pilot Exalto A/S tires. The GTI was factory equipped with a sport suspension including front and rear stabilizer bars. Stopping power is provided by four-wheel disc brakes.

The front sport seats and split-folding rear bench are trimmed in striped gray cloth, and additional interior elements include manually adjustable mirrors, hand-crank windows, air conditioning, and a factory “Sound Choice” SC 73 ETR radio. Wear is visible on the driver’s seat and the leather on the shift knob is deteriorated.

The four-spoke steering wheel frames a 120-mph speedometer, a tachometer, readouts for coolant temperature and fuel level, and a multi-function digital display with a clock and readings for distance driven, average speed, oil temperature, fuel economy, and ambient temperature. The six-digit odometer shows 168k miles.

The 1.8L eight-valve RD inline-four features Bosch KE-Jetronic fuel injection and was rated at 102 horsepower and 110 lb-ft of torque when new.

Power is delivered to the front wheels through a five-speed manual transaxle.
