Description
This 1985 Volkswagen Golf GTI was fitted with a 2.8-liter VR6 and five-speed manual transaxle sourced from a 1995 model approximately 27 years ago and was subsequently inspected by the State of California Bureau of Automotive Repair. It is finished in white over gray and red striped upholstery and features 15″ OZ Racing wheels, disc brakes, BC Racing coilovers, an aftermarket exhaust system, air conditioning, a golf ball shift knob, and a Bluetooth-capable Kenwood head unit. The car spent time with a long-term owner in California before being acquired by the selling dealer in 2023. This modified GTI is now offered at no reserve with smog test results, build summary paperwork, a clean Carfax report, and a clean California title.
The car left the Westmoreland, Pennsylvania, factory finished in Alpine White and features a quad headlight grille, a front lip spoiler, red striped bumpers, black wheel arch extensions, GTI badging, a rear window wiper, and a rear window spoiler.
OZ Racing Futura 15″ modular wheels are mounted with 205/40 Nitto Neo Gen tires. The car is equipped with BC Racing coilovers and four-wheel disc brakes. The selling dealer states the tires were replaced and an alignment was performed in preparation for the sale.
The cabin features seating surfaces upholstered in gray cloth with red and gray striped inserts. Interior elements include air conditioning, a golf ball shift knob, hand-crank windows, and a Bluetooth-capable Kenwood head unit.
The four-spoke steering wheel wears a GTI-branded horn button and fronts a replacement gauge cluster consisting of a 160-mph speedometer, a tachometer, and supplementary gauges for coolant temperature and fuel level. The digital odometer display does not function, therefore total mileage is unknown. The seller notes the speedometer functions intermittently.
The 2.8-liter VR6 was sourced from a 1995 model and utilizes a single cylinder head with dual overhead camshafts and two valves per cylinder. An oil change was performed in preparation for the sale.
Power is sent to the front wheels through a five-speed manual transaxle. An aftermarket exhaust system with a Dynomax muffler is installed.
